I fell in love with vintage textiles the first time I went through the garage and found my mother's old clothes from the 1970's. I've always been attracted to the patterns and color choices of the 1960's and 70's. There's always a sense of hope in these patterns, like a bright new future waiting to be enjoyed. I want to express that sense of fun, of youthfulness, in my line, and my personal aesthetic of bold colors and fun patterns.
I always thought it was funny that men were discouraged from wearing bright colors and crazy prints - except when it comes to the necktie. I'm a thrift store shopaholic, and found myself constantly buying men's neckties, until I had built quite a collection. Suddenly it occurred to me that I could combine my great collection of men's neckties with my collection of vintage snaps - and voila! - the vintage tie snap bracelet was born. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do, they're a great way for women or men to add some vintage flair to their wardrobe!
In an attempt to use every last bit of the fabric in the neckties, I experimented and developed my new coin purses, which feature metal frames and colorful contrasting linings. My newest addition, pinback button sets, are color-coordinated sets perfect for stocking stuffers and small gifts.
All items are handmade in Oakland, California. Vintage tie bracelets, coin purses, and buttons are made from recycled ties mainly purchased from thrift stores that give their proceeds to charitable causes. At least 50% of the money that I spend on ties goes to Goodwill, The Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul, or other thrift stores that help among other things: disabled people find jobs and job training, recovering alcoholics and addicts, and the homeless and hungry. I use mainly scrap leather and vinyl purchased as waste cuts from leather shops or at thrift stores and craft recycling centers. I try to use every part of the necktie in my production process, and to reduce waste in general. I like knowing that besides helping the Earth by reducing waste that I can help other people with my small donations, and you can shop happy knowing that as well.
